Sweet Emotions, from Lazy Lady Farm in Westfield, VT
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
This is not my first time trying a cheese from Lazy Lady Farm, so I had high hopes when trying this Sweet Emotions wheel for the first time. And fortunately, my high hopes were warranted because this little mixed milk dream is DELICIOUS! Sweet Emotions is an ultra silky and gooey bloomy rind goat’s milk cheese, and the addition of cow’s cream in this cheese makes gives it a crazy creamy texture. This pasteurized 4oz wheel is perfect for a springtime cheese plate and after being left in my fridge to get a little extra ripe, was basically liquid. It is buttery and a little tangy, but not overly “goaty”. There are subtle notes of fresh spring grasses and flowers, and the cheese is fairly mild, without being underwhelming. I paired it with a local New Jersey Wildflower Honey and some organic graham crackers and it was an incredible afternoon snack (if a little messy).
PROS: Silky gooey texture, accessible flavor, and likely a great option for people who are not normally fans of goat cheeses! With a little honey, it’s also likely a good option for kids who enjoy good cheese!
CONS: When super ripe and gooey, it can be a little bit of a mess to deal with (but WELL worth it in my opinion)
OVERALL RATING: 4.5 out of 5.
OTHER FACTS: Lazy Lady Farm is entirely off the grid (and has been for over 30 years), and they rely entirely on solar and wind power – VERY COOL! Sweet Emotions is only available March through December. In addition to the goat milk from the farm, Sweet Emotions is also made with organic cow’s cream from Butterworks in Vermont!
Including this giant photo of the pairing so you can see alllllllllllllllllllll the gooey deliciousness that is this cheese.
